You use your mouse or tap the screen to select items, interact with objects and solve each room's puzzle. Progress comes from choosing the correct options to outsmart the guards rather than from timing or reflexes.

Both at once. The framing is stealth - guards, obstacles, a prison to get out of - but the actual play is puzzle solving, where you work out the right sequence before committing to it.

The attempt fails and you try the room again. Because the guards follow patterns rather than acting randomly, a failed attempt shows you something useful about how the stage is meant to be solved.
