On desktop, move the mouse to aim, with the center reticle as your aim point. Hold the left mouse button or Space to fire. On mobile, you drag to aim and the gun auto-fires whenever the reticle sits on a target.

Your twin AA gun heats up as you fire, so you have to manage it instead of holding the trigger down nonstop. Keep an eye on the gauge and fire with purpose, especially once the swarms get dense.

You face waves of diving fighters first. Later stages add bombers and armored blimps on high flyovers, plus kamikazes that don't turn away. Swarms get denser and dives get faster as you climb the stages.

Yes. Enemy planes fire at you and bombs drop toward the deck. The fight is about stopping them before they reach the hull, because one bad miss can be enough to sink your ship.
